Text:
“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” - Matthew 4:8, 9.

Comment:
During the temptation in the wilderness, the devil sought worship from our Lord Jesus Christ in return for giving him the kingdoms of the world. The money is thus the bait the devil uses to draw as many people as possible into his den and cause as much godlessness as possible in the world.  Because he controls the resources of the earth, the devil concentrates them in a few hands while majority of people wallow in hunger and penury. When tempted by the devil with promise of material wealth and glory, Jesus Christ told him “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” - Matthew 4:8-11.

Man, being mortal cannot withstand or confront the devil, a mighty spirit being, who is at the head of so many demons and wicked men here on earth. The devil is the “prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience…” (Ephesians 2:2) No matter how brilliant a human being is, he is grossly limited in capacity and cannot fight the devil. But the Saviour stated, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and  mammon.” (Matthew 6:24) The Lord taught us not to compromise because of material gain. We should do as he had done.
