Mbaitoli Lawmaker, Nnataraonye weeps, says hoodlums after Egbeada traders.

Member representing Mbaitoli State constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ifeanyi I. Nnataraonye has decried the recent unwarranted attacks on traders at Egbeada market by hoodlums and called on Commissioner of Police to immediately go for the traders' rescue.

The lawmaker in a motion of public importance presented at the floor of the House disclosed that the security situation in the Imo modern market Egbeada in Mbaitoli council area was alarming,adding that it would create adverse effect on the lives of the people and the business environment of the area per say.

He further noted that no business man or woman will trade or do business in environment that has security challenges and recalled how recently some hoodlums shifted their criminally attack base to the newly established Egbeada market along Orlu road where they have been dislodging cash and goods from innocent traders who were moving into the market to do their legitimate businesses.

According to him, the situation has created unprecedented anxiety and uneasiness among the business class,  their wares position that the state government's decision to decentralize the  markets within Owerri Capital territory was to better the state and make it more accommodating, citing the Naze, Relief and Egbeada markets.

He pointed out that one of the visible ways to promote development is through the instrumentality of market policies, its constructions and locations at strategic points to improve the rural economy which the rescue mission administration  is determined to do, hence he requested the Commissioner of Police in the State to post armed policemen to Egbeada market along Orlu road Owerri on permanent basis to ensure the safety of traders and their customers as well as other well meaning Imolites operating within the axis, furthering Imo State government today site a police post at the market to checkmate criminal activities.

The Ogwa born lawmaker who was the Chief sponsor of the motion used the stated that the plans of the State government to dualize the road were part of its agenda to beautify Imo State and position the market for optimisms. Supporting the motion, member for Isu State constituency, Hon. Ngozi Obiefule stressed the need for the government to quickly construct a police post at the market in order to build confidence on the traders at the market. The deputy speaker, Ugonna Ozurigbo on his own noted that, if possible government should create another police division for the market.
